Maj-Gen Al Marri also instructed the officials to take the children out on recreational trips.

The 77 children of prisoners at Dubai jails will receive "high quality" education to help their integration into nurseries when their mothers are released, a top official said on Sunday. The Dubai Police are the first in the region to allow female prisoners to keep their children aged below two years with them as they serve their sentences.

Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, instructed the officials concerned to adopt the proposed new designs for the reformatory institution's nursery building, so that children learn and grow up in a healthy environment. He said the new design includes an open air playground, a play room and a clinic.

Maj-Gen Al Marri also instructed the officials to take the children out on recreational trips after obtaining consent from their mothers.

The instructions came as the police chief toured the General Department of Penal and Correctional Institutions.
