Brendan Ballantyne, 22, died after he was hit by a car while walking on a road in Waikiki on Saturday night.

The Dockers released a statement confirming the crash involved a relative of one of their players.

"The Fremantle Dockers would like to extend their deepest sympathies to the family of Hayden Ballantyne after his brother Brendan was tragically killed on Saturday evening," the statement said.

"Our thoughts are with the Ballantyne family at this extremely difficult time."

A 47-year-old man has been charged with careless driving occasioning death over the crash.

He is due to appear in the Rockingham Magistrates Court later this month.

Major Crash investigators have appealed for anyone who saw the car prior to or at the time of the crash to come forward.
