Australian minimum wage increased by 3.5 per cent

The Fair Work Commission has increased the national minimum wage by 3.5 per cent, to $719.20 a week.

The increase amounts to an extra $24.30 for a 38-hour working week.

The Australian Council of Trade Unions wanted an increase of $50 a week, arguing it would help Australians grappling with the rising cost of living.

But the Australian Industry Group had been pushing for a $12.50 pay rise.

More to come.
